Real Estate Investing has grown in the past ten years from the exclusive work of the very rich and the very few.  Today, there are hundreds of seminars and workshops and books for sale that promote Real Estate Investing as a Get Rich Quick method used by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki and "all the other significant millionaires."  That is true.

But, like any other business, it takes work and skill to master both the technical details and a mature system of planning to make real estate investing a profitable and stable source of income.

In this overview of real estate investing, you will gain insights that I have gleaned from my own businesses, and by studying the professionals who have done it right.  This article is not a Get Rich Scheme for me to get money from you, but is designed to give you the basic information that you need to make wise decisions as you consider if real estate investing is a business strategy that can help you meet your own professional and personal and financial goals.

"Real Estate" means real property or immovable property, something that can be owned and is too large to relocate.  In the early days of human business, land was not owned, but was used generation after generation as a shared location of life.  Then,  tribal leaders set out boundaries for their area of control, and the land and its contents were used under the administration of those leaders and/or their councils.  Eventually, the right to control specific portions of land and the resources above and below that land were given to smaller and smaller areas, until we arrived at the current status where an individual can own and control not only a measure of the surface area of the land, but also extending deep into the earth or high into the sky, and any portion of one of those layers.  The early "owners" were only royalty ("real" in Spanish) but today anyone with enough money can buy the right to control almost any area of the world.
